Role Model Mentors is committed to providing a productive, safe and enjoyable experience for both the Mentor and Mentee. Below are helpful FAQs to help you better understand our service:

Role Model Mentors qualifies its Mentors through a variety of screening steps. Our exact screening methodology is evolving all the time, and is also proprietary. It is incumbent on the client to meet with your assigned Mentor prior to your first session, and evaluate your Mentor for compatibility with your child and performance relative to expectations. While we seek to ensure that each and Mentor is confident and mature enough to be effective, it is ultimately the responsibility of the mentee parent to make that determination. In the event you are unhappy with your mentor, we will make arrangements to replace them as soon as possible.
We do not run formalized background checks on Mentors, as these students are High School students with credential indicating they are responsible young adults. If a Mentee parent or legal guardian would like to run a background check on a Mentor, they may do so on their own and at their own expense.
Role Model Mentors does not directly employ Mentors. Mentors are independent contractors, and we provide a service to acquire Clients and Mentors, match them based on their unique profiles, and facilitate an amazing experience for both. As part of our service we handle billing clients and remuneration for Mentors. We also facilitate volunteer mentoring opportunities for community service, and donate Mentoring services on a free or subsidized basis for many who cannot afford it.
Every one of our Mentors submits a profile that captures details about their academic strengths, extracurricular activities, and the sports they play. Parents create a profile of their child/Mentee that provide insights into their interests, hobbies, and academic needs. Additionally, we often consult parents in interview Mentors prior to the matching process. Using these inputs, Role Model Mentors creates the pairing using a variety of proprietary technologies?, and, typically, one of our team members to hand pick the final match.
Thanks for the interest! You may enroll as a client or sign up as a mentor even if our program is not yet up and running in your town/school district. We often look at new enrollments and mentor signups as a reason to begin our program in a new area. You may also send a note to info@rolemodelmentors.com with a mention of the town and state you live in. We’ll then get back to you with an update on the ongoing expansion of our service.
Our privacy policy is featured elsewhere on our website. Please click here to review it. We are committed to complying with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act). The Role Model Mentors website is not directed at children under 13 years of age. All Mentors, as part of their agreement, give permission to Role Model Mentors to use their image and submitted information for marketing, promotion and all other purposes reasonably related to our business operation.
If for any reason you are not happy with your mentor during the first month, we will provide a new mentor, at no additional cost to you. Upon a second match taking place, if you are still unhappy with our service, we will refund your monthly payment as well as any match fees.

Mentors are selected based on matching the individualized needs and interests of the mentee. However, in addition, Mentors must have the maturity, discipline and attributes of a responsible young adult. Parents must also be committed to exercising common sense to ensure each mentoring session is safe, productive and meaningful for all those involved.

Mentees must be between the ages of 5 and 14, and currently enrolled in an attending elementary or middle school.
No. Mentors are not permitted to enter any Mentee house without a Mentee parent or legal guardian present. If you are running late you should immediately text or call your Mentor to alert them. The session can be postponed if you both agree upon a delayed start time. In all circumstances the time a Mentor spends waiting for an adult to be present during a previously scheduled session will count as utilized time.
No. Even though you may approve of this, the Mentor is not permitted to drive a Mentee anywhere or at any time
Yes, that is ok. You and your Mentor are responsible for finding a time and location that works best for all parties. Just remember that the Mentor cannot drive the Mentee at any time. Also, during the mentoring session, a responsible adult must be present at all times, and you are subject to the same responsibilities you would have as a parent if your child was at that location without a mentor present.
It’s ultimately up to the Mentee’s parents to decide where focus should be placed. There is not a “standard” model to follow… some sessions focus entirely on academics, while others involve more time on hobbies, sports and extracurricular activities. Customizing the session plan to fit the specific needs of a Mentee is what makes Role Model Mentors so successful. We have found that mixing one or more activities in a session leads to better mentee interest, engagement, and outcomes.
Many middle school children struggle with social situations, pressures, and disappointments. Often times mentors are able to help younger students by talking through situations and providing advice based on their own experiences and observations. You should feel free talking through any concerns with your mentor. When topics begin to surface that jeopardize the safety of the Mentee or others (e.g. suicidal thoughts, violent acts, deep depression, etc.) we recommend that the Mentor immediately addresses those topics with you. However, please note that Mentors are not trained professionals and it is beyond the scope of mentoring to expect them to assess your child’s mental health or status. If you have concerns about your child’s well being, we urge you to seek professional assistance.
If you have tried reaching out several times, and have yet to receive a reply from your Mentor, please contact your Role Model Mentor representative. That person will help you navigate the appropriate next steps.
Yes, feel free to do so if you wish. Making your Mentor feel welcomed and comfortable in your house is a great step in creating a positive working environment. Of course, under no circumstances should alcoholic beverages be offered to or accepted by the Mentor.
The Role Model Mentor program is strictly designed to provide positive mentoring sessions through knowledge sharing. It is not a child-care service. However, if you and the Mentor agree on activities outside of mentoring, then that is a discussion between the two of you. Please note that our Mentors are forbidden from performing mentoring duties outside of the Role Model Mentoring platform. If there is any confusion about the distinction between roles (mentoring vs. looking after a child), Mentors are required to inform Role Model Mentors about those discrepancies. For the purpose of clarity, if you were to cancel your mentoring agreement or reduce your mentoring hours while engaging your mentor outside of our platform, we would consider that a violation of our agreement.

Compensation for Mentors varies based on experience, skills, geography, and other factors. In addition to Mentoring, we also offer to become involved with marketing and promotion, public relations, research, and other aspects of the business. We also offer bonuses and incentives for certain achievements. Additionally, we offer the ability to Mentor in exchange for community service credits. After applying, you will learn more about rates and opportunities based on your application profile. It is important to understand that as a Mentor, you are not an employee of Role Model Mentors. You are an independent contractor, and an entrepreneur!
Mentors must be at least 14 years old and enrolled in school, or recently graduated High School. They must be a student in good standing, with high academic achievement, extracurricular participation, and no criminal or school discipline history. All Mentors under the age of 18 must make their parents aware that they are Mentoring a younger child. As part of our process, we inform parents when their child signs up to be a Mentor. Mentors whose parents request that they not participate will not be matched.
Mentors are not permitted to enter any Mentee house without a Mentee parent or legal guardian present. If you arrive and a responsible adult family member or caregiver is not there, you should text/call the parent to inquire about their status. If after 20 minutes you have not been notified by the parent/guardian with an update, you are permitted to leave the premises and you will be compensated by RMM for that session.
Even though the Mentee parent approved of this, you are not permitted to drive a Mentee anywhere or at any point. You will need to inform the parent of this requirement, and the two of you must work out another solution.
Yes, that is ok. You and your Mentee’s parents are responsible for finding a time and location that works best for all parties. Just remember that you cannot drive the Mentee at any time. Also, during your mentoring session there should always be the parent or guardian within the general area, whether at their house or in a public location.

When topics surface that jeopardize the safety of the Mentee or others (e.g. suicidal thoughts, violent acts, etc.) we recommend that you immediately address those topics the Mentee’s parents, as well as your own parents. You should also call us at 1-800-485-6013.

No. When you are matched with a family through Role Model Mentors, you agree to provide service through our platform. Role Model Mentors invests a considerable amount of money to manage our matching platform, acquire clients and mentors, facilitate matches, and provide services to both clients and mentors. It is a violation of your mentoring agreement to contract for services directly with any client.
